CircusNext call for projects underway!
On 15 April we have launched an open call for artistc projects for the contest organised by the international platform CircusNext. For the first time, artists from Poland can take part in this prestigious event, thanks to the cooperation Workshops of Culture and Carnaval Sztukmistrzów have established with the CirrcusNext platform. The platform has been created to identify and support emerging contemporary circus artists. It focuses on original and unique projects which can affect the development of contemporary circus. CircusNext consists of 30 members from 17 European countries (members of European festivals, theatres and impresario circuses as well as directors of institutions related to new circus). The open call takes place on three levels:
- the local, national level (Poland): Two of the submitted projects will be recommended by the local Polish jury for the next stages of the contest
- platform level: 22 platform members will recommend 12 projects. The groups responsible for the recommended projects will be asked to present 20-minute works-in-progress in front of professionals and members of the artistic Jury.
- Professional level: The artistic jury will select 6 projects to be realised.
Participation in the project entails not just the benefit of getting financial support, but also of being recommended to every next stage. It lets emerging groups become established in the professional environment of contemporary circus. It gives an opportunity to present ideas in front of professionals. Aside from winning the contest, in every stage, members of the platform can choose to individually support projects that are of interest to them.
The contest is for emerging artists, that is those who have not had a chance to present their work on the broader European stage. Eligible are residents of Europe who are involved in contemporary circus, movement theatre or art in the public space. Carnaval Sztukmistrzów is responsible for the local stage in Poland, it is involved in the promotion of the project, local consultancy and the organization of Jury work.
The projects can be submitted in English until 7 June through this link: http://www.circusnext.eu/application/. You need to send: a 5-miniute recording of a work-in-progress, the description of achievements, earlier shows, performative actions and presentations.
